I Have Pop-ups and advertisements all over my computer, How Do I Get Rid of Them?

Advertising on the internet is free, The trick is figuring out how to get you message to the most viewers.  This is usually done in one of three ways.

POP-UPS - You have all seen pop up windows I don't have to tell you what they look like.  Some are harmless some are malicious.   My advice for all of them is to click on the X in the top right corner. (NEVER CLICK ANYWHERE WITHIN THE WINDOW)

Some windows when clicked on will install small programs or applets on your computer, these programs can do any number of things including:

  1. 1. send information about you or your web usage to unknown parties.

  2. install programs that record your web surfing and display MORE pop-ups.

  3. any program running will slow down your computer (you may have 10 or more of these running right now)

Installed Programs -

Some Internet sights will warn you that you are installing software, perhaps telling you that you will earn rebates, or it will speed up your web surfing, or block pop-ups.   All these programs do is put more advertisements in your face. Do not install them.

Now for some sad news,

Those of you who installed KAZAA or Yahoo toolbar, have been infected by spyware.  Why? Because that's where kazaa makers get their money, if you uninstall the spyware, kazaa no longer works.  As for yahoo, well that's kind of self explanatory, just uninstall all the yahoo components except instant messenger if you use it.

How Do I Stop The Pop-Ups?

First Uninstall any toolbars you have installed, Restart the computer, then download and install the Google Toolbar

Next Step is to uninstall or remove all spy-ware and ad-ware, and/or viruses.  If you are not sure how to go about that;

One Option is to call Rob, and ask for a system Clean-UP

or do some research on the internet, The answers are all out there and they are all free knowledge.

SPAM - If you have an e-mail address you know what it is.  To get rid of it, best bet is to go to a retail store and buy a spam filter for your e-mail and hope it works.
